I saw the preview for Milk last weekend I thought to myself that there certianly must be some very inspirational man overcomes the odds and make a sacrifice for his people sort of story that involves a conservative or at least a not explicitly liberal person.

I have to assume you're being ironic...unless you didn't see the trailer I saw. "Milk" looks like a well-written and acted -- funny in parts -- lovingly shot propaganda piece on behalf of (to use a monstrous cliche) the gay agenda.
Sean Penn playing a gay martyr with all the best lines? Conservatives generally playing the black-hatted bigots?
Obviously (?) Harvey Milk's murder was a disgusting act of cowardice and violence. I remember it. But parlaying personal tragedy into social propaganda is troublesome.
"Milk" will give momentum to the same envelope pushed by "Brokeback." And the forces of political correctness in Hollywood will overwhelmingly tilt toward giving the Oscar to Mr. Penn. I can already hear his rambling gay rights-themed acceptance speech.
That was my point.

No. My point was really a question. Is Hollywood so blinded by their politics that they fail to see anything inspirational about the stories of non-liberal, non-gay heroes?

Ah, okay, an excellent question. It's funny because the template liberal stories they keep churning out (Brokeback, Million $ Baby, Kinsey, blah yadda) win Hollywood plaudits but make nowhere near the money of, say, a Braveheart.

Speaking of Million $ Baby, I sat next to her at a lunch counter in Santa Monica a week or so ago. Very nice girl. Slight.

You mean Hilary Swank? She is cute, yes. You know, for a boy.
